Dr. Nelson Vazquez, MD, FAAFP, MHP, is a board-certified family physician, Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and certified Metabolic Health Practitioner. With more than four decades in medicine, his career has included family medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine, giving him an unusually broad perspective on chronic disease and metabolic health. His passion for metabolic health is also deeply personal. Dr. Vazquez has spoken openly about his own struggles with obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and the aftermath of a stroke, including a period when he weighed more than 300 pounds and required substantial doses of insulin. After first moving toward ketogenic nutrition and later adopting a carnivore approach, he reports dramatic improvements in his weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, sleep apnea, neuropathy, mobility, and overall health. Today, Dr. Vazquez combines decades of clinical experience with the perspective of a patient who was forced to reconsider much of what he had been taught about nutrition. His ability to translate complex metabolic concepts into practical, memorable explanations makes him an engaging educator for anyone interested in the relationship between food, insulin resistance, and chronic disease.
